Seagate Hope To Avoid Issues With New Release

In Jan 2009 Seagate launched the 7200.12 in their, by now well known, Barracuda range. They will however be hoping that this series of drive does not go the same way as it's predecessor the .11 which became famous in Data Recovery circles for it's "Firmware issues"

Seagate Barracuda 7200.12The drive is now commercially available having previously been issued to OEM providers. The drive seems to thus far be avoiding problems that made the .11 such a well known name in Data Recovery with many suffering from the infamous "firmware faults" often within just a few weeks of issue.  The drive is issued at a standard capacity of 500GB 750GB and 1TB and the latter of these drives has an impressive areal density cramming 1TB of storage onto just two platters.

Purchasers of this drive and all Seagate hard disk drives should be aware that Seagate now only offer a 3 year warranty, reduced from five years.

It is hoped that the firmware issues have now been resolved and this release won't be plauged as it's much maligned predecessor!

Full details on the drive can be seen on the Seagate website including full technical details. Please click here>>>
