CD & DVD Recovery

CD / DVD Data RecoveryCD's and DVD's are often referred to as optical media and in keeping with all other data storage methods they are not an everlasting way to safely store critical data.

Optical media can easily be damaged by surface scratches, dust and incorrect handling. Physical damage and scuffs to the reflective layers (on the top of the DVD or CD) can result in the data on the disk becoming inaccessible. CD's and DVD's also (the same has a Hard Disk Drive) will eventually degrade and become unreadable. This can occur at any time but in general the life expectancy of optical media such as these is around 3-5 years.

Some error messages generated when trying to open a corrupt CD/DVD are:

    * d:\ is not accessible or appears blank
    * Incorrect function
    * The computer hangs while attempting to read the media.

In many cases your data can be quickly recovered and either returned to you an another DVD or if the storage capacity of the recovered data is under 1GB we can allow you to download this from our secure FTP servers.

NB Please note that if your optical device snaps then under no circumstances can the data be retreived from this type of failure.
